Professor Wayne Martino

Professor Wayne Martino is principal investigator on an SSHRC (Social Sciences Humanities Research Council of Canada) funded project that deals with minority underachievement in urban schools in Toronto. He is on the Editorial-Advisory Boards of a number of international refereed journals, such as the International Journal of Inclusive Education, Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education, Educational Review, Journal of Lesbian and Gay Youth, Journal of Men and Masculinities and Teaching Education.

Wayne is the author/editor of 12 books and has published over 75 refereed journal articles and book chapters. His books include: So What’s a Boy? Addressing Issues of Masculinity and Schooling (with Maria Pallotta-Chiarolli, Open University Press, 2003), Being Normal is the Only Way To Be: Adolescent Perspectives on Gender and School (with Maria Pallotta-Chiarolli, University of New South Wales Press, 2005), Gendered Outcasts and Sexual Outlaws: Sexual Oppression and Gender Hierarchies in Queer Men’s Lives (with Christopher Kendall, Routledge, 2006), Boys and Schooling: Beyond Structural Reform (with Bob Lingard & Martin Mills, Palgrave, 2009).

His most recent books are Gender, Race and the Politics of Role Modelling: The Influence of Male Teachers(with Goli Rezai-Rashti, Routledge New York) and Canadian Men and Masculinities (with Christopher Greig, Canadian Scholars’ Press, 2012).
