Experiencing Wiltja: Indigenous Girls Mentoring program

Technology project co-created with the people of the APY-Lands

This project focused on exploring the role of technology in young people’s lives, and how it can be used to improve the mental health and wellbeing of Indigenous young people aged 12 to 25.

The Experiencing Wiltja! project responded to a need for research with the potential to improve educational and employment outcomes for young Aboriginal people, particularly those from the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in central Australia, and to contribute to their social emotional and mental health well-being, using online and social media to underpin these aspects of the project in particular.

The co-design and participatory action research was conducted with Indigenous Australian young people living in the APY Lands of South Australia and their boarding school, the Wiltja residential program in SA.
